Living room with new hardwood floors after a whole-home remodel

Hardwood is one of the best investments you can make in a home. It’s warm, it’s timeless, and a good hardwood floor can last for generations. It’s also an investment that a bad installation can ruin, and that’s where Kellie’s comes in.

Help choosing the right floor

From the moment you call, our staff helps you find the right product for your space: the species, color, finish, plank width and style. We carry hardwood from trusted suppliers and the major brands (see our top flooring products), and we lay out the options clearly so you can compare.

Solid vs. engineered hardwood

Solid (natural) hardwood is exactly what it sounds like: solid wood from top to bottom, milled from a limited number of species. It can be sanded and refinished many times, so a solid floor can be renewed again and again.

Engineered hardwood is made from layers of real wood pressed together, with a hardwood surface on top, and it comes in many more species and looks. It’s more stable in changing humidity, which makes it a smart choice for damp areas, whether that’s because of the Northwest climate or the room it’s in. It’s usually less expensive too. The trade-off: it can typically be refinished only once or twice.

Neither one is always “better.” It depends on how you’ll use the floor and how much demand it will face.

Installed to spec, from the subfloor up

Our installers are experienced professionals who install hardwood from start to finish according to the manufacturer’s specifications, with quality and affordability in mind. That starts underneath: we check the subfloor and repair or level it before a single board goes down.

We can also mix hardwood with carpet, luxury vinyl or tile in the same plan, and we refinish existing hardwood too. Pick your city below for local details, or call (206) 300-3156 for a free estimate anywhere in Western Washington.

Every floor goes down over a flat, solid subfloor. Kellie's checks that first, which is why the floors stay flat.

The flooring is beautiful, the installation is perfect. I threw some curve balls and Kellie was all over it, every time. FANTASTIC all around!

Did you know?

Most "bad floor" calls aren't the floor. If a room feels bouncy or the planks keep separating, the subfloor underneath is usually the problem, and covering it up with new flooring just buys you a year. Kellie's levels and repairs the subfloor first, which is why the floors stay flat.

FAQ

Hardwood floors questions

Is engineered hardwood 'real' hardwood?

Yes. Engineered hardwood has a top layer of real wood bonded to a layered core. You walk on real wood, and the core makes it more stable when humidity changes. The trade-off is that it can only be sanded and refinished once or twice.

Which is better, solid or engineered?

Neither across the board. Solid hardwood can be refinished many times and carries a bit more prestige. Engineered is more stable, often less expensive, and can go in places solid wood can't, like over concrete. We'll help you choose based on the room, the traffic and your budget.

Can you refinish hardwood I already have?

Yes. If your existing hardwood just needs new life, see our hardwood refinishing page.
