Renton homes cover a lot of ground, from postwar houses in the Highlands to split-levels in Fairwood and newer builds all over town. Different eras mean different subfloors, and different problems. Whatever you’re walking on, the layer underneath has to be flat and solid before a new floor goes in.
Why the subfloor decides everything
Your subfloor is the base for the floor you can see. If it’s uneven or weak, the new floor can look off, wear out faster and even become a tripping hazard. Most flooring manufacturers set a flatness standard their product has to be installed over. The only way to know where yours stands is to pull up the old floor and have someone experienced look.
Common problems we fix in Renton
- Bumpy concrete. Old slabs that sat under carpet for years are rarely flat. We level spots or the whole floor.
- Squeaks and creaks. Usually a subfloor that’s come loose from the framing. We re-secure it.
- Swollen or twisted plywood. Common in homes framed during a wet season. We sand high spots and fill low ones.
- Dips and mushy spots. Often water damage. We cut out the bad section and install new plywood.
- Slanted floors. Seen in basements and older homes. We level concrete or build up wood subfloors, and handle framing repairs when that’s the real cause.
